Regarding the flood relief:
1. Once the flood badly hits the state, our initial step will be taken care by the Sub divisional co coordinators. Immediately they will contact the district administration. They will collect the information about the blocks got effected by flood. This information will be available in the DC office, Sub-Divisional office, Circle office & in the Information and Broadcasting Deptt.
2.Second step will be to find out the approximate population got effected by the flood in concerned area or block. Head of the village (Gaon Burha) or GP or the DC office, Sub-Divisional office, Circle office & the Information and Broadcasting Deptt will be handy in this.
3.Then PROYAASH have to decide what kind of relief will be given to those blocks. Medical Camp/ Food/Cloth/transportation any one for a single block. The relief can be differing from block to block. We will have to join hands with the administration in this. But we will have to strictly monitor that the relief reaches the effected area and properly distributed..
4.Village Level workers of different rural health centers will be helpful for this.
5.But for all these we need fund. A huge amount will be required. We will have to join hands with different social organizations for these. Not an easy process but as the word Impossible itself says I'm possible.
6. Last but not the least as I always said "Xoor – Bahini" will be a guiding force for us as an much much more experienced organisation in this field.
During the time of flood we must have a team which will provide all the necessary items regarding the most common diseases during flood
There must be several teams to cover up a large number of flood affected regions.
The team:
A) 1 doc
B) 2-3 volunteer nurses
C) 5-6 volunteers to manage the public gathering
D) The necessary medicines
e) if possible there should be an ambulance
f) 2 volunteer to distribute the medicines .they must have a little pharmaceutical skills
g) There should be separate place to check up the patients. It can be inside the ambulance van
The team will work like this:
1) Physical check up of every flood victims
2) In case of contagious diseases, the patient should be separated from the others
3) In case of any emergency, the patient should be transferred to the nearby govt. hospital
4) Distribution of the medicines: During the distribution process the volunteers should be very careful as they can misinterpret the prescription which is very common now-a-days.
The most common diseases during flood are,
Diarrheal diseases,
Dysentery,
Typhoid,
Amoebiasis,
Enterobiasis,
Cholera,
Hepatitis A,
Allergic infection,etc.
a team should carry all the necessary medications to fight with the above mentioned diseases..
Transportation of medicines to the flood affected areas...
a)The medicines should be carried in some kind of plastic packets so that water cannot affect them
b)The medicines should be packed in such a way that the volunteers can easily find them out
The sanitation aspects that the camps of the flood victims need to take care of,especially after the flood is over:
1)Providing them drinking water
2)Using of bleaching powder to prevent any kind of infection.
3)Malaria is a common disease during the time of flood. We have to use DDT and we should carry antimalarial drugs with us.
4)Maintance of personal hygiene:The victims should be explained to maintain their personal hygiene and if possible we should provide them temporary sanitary toilets.
As some preventive measures we can provide them athua (net)s, blankets etc
